Admiral House Project Page

Admiral House, Cardiff

Situated in the heart of Cardiff city centre this high tech office block has been clad completely in white reconstituted stone , the panels were cast to exacting standards in order to wrap around the structural steel frame and some structural columns were actually fully encased by Thorp off site to form the ground floor colonnade.

Thorp were involved in the scheme at an early stage and following the production of a full scale mock up off site honed the detailing such that the majority of fixing points for the panels were fabricated into the structural frame thus greatly reducing the risks posed by loose brackets and handling of the same.

The project also incorporates a roof level colonnade for which again the panels were cast to encase the steel , the installation of these components called for some very detailed sequencing along with the challenges associated to accessing fixings and panels 13 storeys up.
