This new office and retail building being developed for the JV between Grosvenor & Stow is an example of how the use of modern precast construction technology can guarantee high standards of design, manufacture and quality of finish.
In sensitive and historical settings an early decision by the Client in consultation with the Main Contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine and Architects HOK was to adopt a fast track precast ”offsite” approach to the external masonry clad facade. The appointment of Thorp Precast Ltd to develop the design, manufacture, supply and erect the architectural masonry faced precast cladding panels to an ambitious programme has been key in achieving such a fast enclosure of the structure.
With everything manufactured off site in a factory controlled environment large precast cladding panels featuring a blend of handmade bricks and natural Portland stone have been transported to site and fixed in one operation by a small team of specially trained operatives. No external scaffolding or wet trades are required which means significant construction time savings have been achieved without detriment to quality.
